Integrated Design Process (IDP): Experience a collaborative approach to project design and project management essential for efficient, high-performance results.
Building Codes are changing and will soon require even higher levels of performance, and these performance levels require new tools to measure and verify performance levels and new team-based design strategies to help with complex decision making. IDP presents a powerful new project development tool for builders: It’s a collaborative approach to project design and project management essential for efficient, high-performance results. IDP coordinates Targets, Tools & Teamwork. New tools measure and predict performance results. Key project decision-makers, designers, trades, and consultants, work together in a charrette (workshop) format, to compare options and optimize design decisions for the greatest overall impact. Priorities include time and cost investments.
Project managers, architects, designers, architectural technologists, estimators, site supers, municipal staff, and building officials will benefit from this one day workshop.
The LEEP IDP Workshop will focus on how to achieve compliance with locally applicable codes and standards, providing participants with the following:
• An interactive update on local energy-efficiency requirements with an open discussion of challenges and solutions; exploring the impact of upgrades on energy, cost and carbon
• Provincial Archetypes used to demonstrate the IDP process and decision-making tools that can help members achieve energy-efficiency targets through either the prescriptive or performance code compliance path
• Information on tools, guides and technical forums developed by Natural Resources Canada
• Participating builders will gain access to parametric analysis, cost optimization, embodied carbon analysis, etc.
• A takeaway package summarizing the new energy-efficiency requirements and design solutions
• Opportunity to receive follow-up information and updates
WORKSHOP FORMAT
Once participants have been through a discussion of potential energy efficiency measures (site design, building envelope, mechanical systems), the group will identify potential upgrades and coordinate a compliant design solution. The discussion will explore topics such as the impact of energy conservation measures on annual energy consumption, carbon and the cost to implement these measures and comply with the energy target.
