This full-day course provides new and experienced Part 9 residential builders and building officials with practical hands-on training and useful knowledge for successfully planning and installing airtight and high R-value building enclosures needed to meet current and future code requirements.  Join us as we shape the future of residential construction!

Course Description

In the ever-evolving landscape of residential construction, the mindset and approach we adopt today must align with the performance requirements of tomorrow. We can no longer rely on outdated design and construction practices to meet the demands of high-performance residential buildings.  This interactive training combines tabletop mock-ups, 3D graphics, and expert-led discussions. 

As we move toward more sustainable and energy-efficient buildings, key questions we need to be able to answer include:

•    What changes can we expect in the enclosure assemblies and details?

•    How can we design and construct homes that perform optimally while minimizing energy consumption?

•    What renewable details should we consider enhancing longevity and reduce maintenance costs?

•    How can builders gain hands-on experience with innovations before implementing them on projects? 

•    What strategies can help us bridge the gap between theory and practice?

To answer these and more questions, the Community Energy Association & the Canadian Home Builders’ Association, in collaboration with RDH Building Science, invite both new and seasoned Part 9 residential builders from any British Columbia climate zone to participate in this engaging hands-on training event. During this full day session, attendees will:

1.    Gain Hands-On Experience: Dive into practical exercises involving high-performance air and water barrier membrane installation. Learn techniques that enhance efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

2.    Learn Fundamental Knowledge: Understand the principles behind high-performance enclosure design. Equip yourself with the essential tools to evaluate and implement cutting-edge solutions demanded by current and future codes.

3.    See Renewable Detailing Approaches: Explore innovative approaches that can be applied to today’s projects. Discover sustainable practices that align with environmental goals.

4.    Apply Cold-Climate Building Science: Use building science principles to formulate a durable high R-value assembly that can be used confidently in any climate zone

5.    Tackle Fire Resiliency: Learn what details and materials it takes to improve fire resiliency in both urban and wildland fires.
